The EMAS eco-audit and eco-management system is a tool for the environmental management of companies and all types of organizations, including Administrations, which allows evaluating and improving their behavior in relation to the environment. The system can be adopted by any company or organization since 2001.
In 2009 all the legislation of the EMAS system was reviewed. As a consequence, new regulations (Regulation 1221/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council) were published and entered into force in January 2010.
Concern for the environment, pressure from the media and environmental laws are changing the ways of doing business around the world. Increasingly, consumers are asking for environmentally sustainable products, which do not harm the environment. Thus, it is increasingly important for companies and organizations that their products and services respond positively to these concerns.
